The Three Bodies in Mahayana Buddhism The Three Bodies in Mahayana Buddhism are Nirmanakaya or "emanation body" of the Buddha principle; above the Nirmanakaya was the Sambhogakaya or divine Celestial body; and above that in turn the Dharmakaya or Truth Body, which was of the nature of Absolute Reality. The Nirmanakaya or "Emanation Body"
of the Buddha principle, Dharmakaya or "Truth" or "Reality body", by which the Buddha is of the nature of the essential Absolute Reality, or "emptiness" (Shunyata), so called because it is "empty" of all finite characteristics. Sambhogakaya or "Complete Enjoyment body", by which the Buddha exists as a transcendent, eternal, celestial being; a primordial archetypal deity or Tathagata buddha. Nirmanakaya or "Transformation" or "Emanation body", which is visible historical form of the Buddha. |
