As long as man maintains a consciousness of his divine nature, he will think and act in line with that divine harmony which gives dominion; otherwise the mortal gains supremacy and he loses his dominion. In other words, when he allows the carnal mind to rule he is out of harmony with Divine Law. “The carnal mind is enmity against God,” not subject to Divine Law at all; and while the carnal mind rules, the life problem will be full of mistakes.

We, as Divine Scientists understand through the teachings that we have choices. We can accept whatever comes to us, or, we can choose what comes to us by practicing the principles of love, generosity, peace and good will. This means to intentionally surround ourselves with the ideas that provide us more than "things" will ever provide us. When we fill ourselves with the principle of love, we are love. Fill ourselves with health and we are health. Fill ourselves with soul wealth and we are emotional and financial wealth. Fill ourselves with peace and we are peace.

They don't know that purified morals and spiritual awakening to what is real and true regarding themselves, their origin, and their powers, accomplish the desired change in bodily conditions more quickly and more perfectly when they take up the study for the grand truth there is in it, than for the health it brings. The greater our love for The Principle, the greater the benefit.

To any individual that you think is inclined to wrong you, call the name mentally and say, "your intentions toward me are only good, and everything you say and do is a help and advantage to me and also to yourself. There is only love between us, and only love in your heart." p.118

Every student who takes up the study of the laws of mind, will find that many of his lifelong views and ideas must give place to the truths we find in the new dispensation. This will not be hard to do when you remember that no practical help or comfort has ever come to you from the old way of thinking and doing, and we know that great help and comfort do come from the new way. A willingness to give up the false way is in the highest degree essential to one who takes up the study with honest, sincere desire to grasp an understanding of its principles.

On Abundance

The sixth movement of the law, or the sixth treatment of a patient (according to the rule) is the one in which he needs the assurance of his right to claim perfection in every department of his being. You have not done for him all you can do, till you assure him of his birthright by silent argument; and you must continue this assurance till he responds by realizing it himself. P113

THE HOLY TEMPLE AND THE INNER SANCTUARY

The temple of the Spirit of truth and goodness is the divine soul or the divine man, wherein the human knowingly or unknowingly lives; where the thought and consciousness knowingly or unknowingly resides. The altar of this temple, from which the Spirit of truth and goodness instructs the human in ways divine, is the absolute consciousness of the union of Spirit and soul, or of God and man. In this temple and from this altar has the Redeemer, from time immemorial, taught the truth, the unity and the oneness of life. From this altar the truth is ever saying, "Let there be light."

All systems of religious or divine teaching should point the way by which individuals can perceive the truth for themselves. The Infinite Spirit which underlies all manifestation, is not revealed or made manifest in false interpretation, but it is revealed and made manifest by correct and truthful interpretation of Itself. They who would hasten toward Goodness or God, must cease false interpretation and perceive the true worth and position of Spirit.

Outside of metaphysics the world is seeking for its life by physical performances; working at machinery, books, commerce, cooking, washing, eating, governing one another, employing one another, killing and using animals, wearing flesh and bones into the grave to make a living. Do not be concerned about how you can learn a lesson so completely different from everything that you have taught yourself. How would you know? Your part is very simple. You need only recognize that everything you learned you do not want. Ask to be taught and do not use your experiences to confirm what you have learned. When your peace is threatened or disturbed in any way say to yourself, "I do not know what anything, including this, means. And so I do not know how to respond to it. And I will not use my own past learning as the light to guide me now." When the light comes and you have said, "God's Will is mine," you will see such beauty that you will know it is not of you.
